Bilderatlas Spring Break: live at RKH Studio

On May 7, I debuted with the ensemble Arto Fantasma at RKH Studio in Turin with “Bilderatlas Spring Break”, an audiovisual composition within the Nickelodeon digitale project, using the Im-prompt-u methodology.

A kybernete directs the ensemble in real time through plain-text instructions transmitted via Armillaria, a minimal browser-based system for live textual conduction that I developed. A pre-composed visual atlas in three acts (Ieri, Oggi, Domani — Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow), drawn from open-licensed archival sources, is re-sonified live by the ensemble.

With: Carlo Barbagallo (electric guitar), Dario Bruna (drums), Simone Garino (alto sax), Federico Marchesano (double bass), Bruno Surace (composition and conduction), Edmondo Tedesco (clarinets), Andrea Valle (system development and electric bass).

Systema naturae in Viitassari, for Time of Music

We have been invited to perform our Systema naturae with our friends of Schallfeld Ensemble as the final event of Time of Music Festival in Viitasaari, Finland, on 11/07/2022. Lots of work and traveling, but lots of fun too.

Periplo at SMC22

This year SMC has not been organized by me (as the previous two online edition, blame COVID). It was in St. Étienne and with my colleague Valeriya Korol we presented a paper, “For LISA. Music Composition from Gravitational waves” explaining the process that went from Valeriya’s GWD data, for the LISA mission, to my piece for prepared piano. On July 28th we also had the chance to present it at LISA meeting. You can check the paper here. And the music is here.

Thanks to Tempo Reale, on 04/05/2022 I had the chance of doing live coding (first time ever in a proper sense…) in the homage they paid to the great Pietro Grossi. So I played my SuperCollisione PiGra, of course with SuperCollider. Here it is on YouTube.

Thanks to Marco Masoero, I’ve been invited for the Teknologhia cycle of events, inside Polincontri, Politecnico di Torino. In the occasione Carlo Barbagallo and Elaine Bonsangue have shot and edited a wonderful documentary on some of my works, here on YouTube. We discussed it live on 22/04/2022 at Politecnico di Torino.

Doubling with Explore Ensemble

With my pal Mauro Lanza we had the chance to have our Systema naturae cycle performed twice by the amazing London-based ensemble Explore, first in Den Bosch for November Music (three times in 06-07/11/2021), then in Huddersfield for HCMF (18/11/2021).
